Day 3 · Lent: A Return to God
Learning to Let Go
“But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth.'"”Matthew 4:4
Reflection
When Jesus fasted in the wilderness, his hunger revealed what he truly leaned on, and it turned him toward the Father's word. Self-denial in Lent is not about punishing the body but about loosening our grip on the comforts that can quietly become small masters. As we set something down, we make room to be fed by a deeper bread.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, you went into the wilderness hungry and came out steadied by the Father's word. Help me to loosen my grip on the small comforts I cling to, not out of fear but out of love for you. When I feel the ache of going without, let it turn my heart toward the bread that truly satisfies. Feed me with your word, and let it be enough. Amen.
Carry this with you
What is one thing I lean on for comfort that I could gently set aside this week to make more room for God?
