Terms of Use

1. Agreeing to these terms

HonestApologist (honestapologist.com) is an independent Christian apologetics ministry run as a sole proprietorship by Elliot Russell Clough ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

The site isn't directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EU and UK). If you're younger than that, please don't create an account or send us anything.

2. Our content

Our articles, guides, games, courses and resources are for education and discussion. They aren't professional advice: not pastoral counsel for your particular situation, and not legal, medical or financial advice.

We work hard to be accurate and fair, and we explain how in How We Work. When we get something wrong we correct it in the open on our Corrections page. We can't promise every page is free of errors, and we welcome reports when you find one.

Quotations from other authors and sources belong to their owners and are used for commentary, criticism and teaching.

3. Using the site

Please don't:

• break the law, or use the site to harass, threaten or deceive anyone;
• try to get into accounts, data or parts of the site you aren't meant to reach, or interfere with its security or running;
• send automated traffic that overloads the site, or scrape it in bulk to republish it;
• pretend to be someone else, or to speak for HonestApologist.

We may limit or block access for anyone who does these things.

4. Your account

You can read the site without an account. If you sign in (with Google), the account is for you alone. You're responsible for what happens under it, so let us know at contact@honestapologist.com if you think someone else has used it.

You can delete your account and its data at any time from your profile page. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms.

5. What you send or post

You can send us questions, prayer requests and corrections, and signed-in readers can comment on and react to published questions and prayers.

• It stays yours. You keep ownership of what you write.
• What you allow us to do with it. You let us store it, read it, answer it, and — only where you ticked the box that allows it — publish it on the site without your name, edited for length or clarity. Comments and reactions you post on published threads appear publicly with your display name and profile photo.
• Be kind and lawful. Don't post anything unlawful, abusive or hateful, other people's private information, or material you don't have the right to share.
• Moderation. We may decline to publish, edit, hide or remove anything sent to the site, and we read every submission personally, so please don't include sensitive details you wouldn't want us to see.

6. Copyright and sharing

Unless a page says otherwise, the site's original writing, design and graphics are © HonestApologist. You're welcome to:

• link to any page, and share it on social media;
• quote short passages with credit and a link back;
• print or save pages for your own study, teaching or small-group use.

Please ask before republishing whole articles, guides or resources, or using them commercially. Scripture quotations are from the translations credited where they appear. The Nicaea Library desktop app is released separately under its own licence (MIT), shown on its download page.

If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, email contact@honestapologist.com with the page and the work concerned and we'll look at it promptly.

7. Donations, membership and purchases

• Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices and gifts are in US dollars. We never see your card number.
• Donations are voluntary gifts to an independent sole proprietorship. They are not tax-deductible charitable contributions.
• Monthly gifts renew each month until you cancel, which you can do at any time under Manage subscription on your profile page.
• Member resources. A monthly gift of $1 or more unlocks the members-only downloads while it's active. They are for your personal and small-group use; please don't redistribute the files.
• Store orders ship to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Shipping is shown at checkout.
• Refunds and cancellations are covered by our Refund Policy.

8. Other websites and services

We link to other sites and embed some third-party content (for example YouTube and Vimeo videos and OpenStreetMap maps). We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

9. Disclaimers and limits

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will always be online, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it arose (or US $50, if greater). Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that the law doesn't allow us to limit.

10. Changes, law and contact

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and the changes apply from then on. Continuing to use the site afterwards means you accept them.

These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, United States, except where the law where you live gives you rights that can't be overridden.
