Jesus Outside the Bible
What Rome, the rabbis, and pagan critics wrote about him.
None of the voices reported here was a Christian trying to help the case, though a few survive only because Christian writers quoted them in order to answer them. Yet notice what none of them ever said: that Jesus had not lived, or had not been crucified. Where they mention him at all, they treat his life and death as a given and argue only over what they meant — the empty tomb dismissed as a stolen body, the miracles as sorcery, the resurrection as delusion. But you cannot explain away what was never there. The ancient argument was never whether Jesus existed — only who he was. And that argument only makes sense if he did.
