How do we know God is good and not just powerful?

Is faith just believing without evidence?
No — biblical faith (πίστις) means trust based on what you have good reason to believe. It's the same word Greek-speakers used for a contract or a courtroom witness.
How can a good God command the destruction of the Canaanites?
The conquest texts are the hardest in Scripture. Read in context they describe a specific, time-bound judgment using ANE warfare rhetoric — not a template, and not a description of God's normal way of dealing with peoples.
Why pray if God already knows what I need?
Prayer isn't informing God; it's communion with him. Like a child running to a parent's arms — the Father already knows, but the running matters.
Is the Trinity logical or incoherent?

How does the Bible actually treat women?

Do Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox worship the same Jesus?

Is doubt a sin?
No. Honest doubt that seeks God is not sin; it is often the doorway to deeper faith. Scripture is full of doubters God did not reject — including Thomas, John the Baptist, and the psalmists.
What is theosis — becoming like God?
Theosis is the Orthodox word for salvation as union with God. Not becoming a god in essence (we never become uncreated) but sharing in God's life — what 2 Peter calls becoming "partakers of the divine nature."
What caused the 1054 schism between East and West?
A long drift on theology (the Filioque), authority (the papacy), and culture, capped by a personal blow-up between legates and the Patriarch. The wound was deepened tragically by 1204.
Why liturgy instead of just a personal relationship with Jesus?
Because the personal relationship Jesus offers is the one he established — through baptism, the Eucharist, the apostles, the Church. The Liturgy is not a barrier to Christ; it is where he meets us, in the way he chose.
What about pagan religions that seem to predate Christianity?

How should we read Genesis 1 — six literal days?
The Church has read Genesis 1 in many faithful ways for two thousand years — including non-literal ones. The point is not a science textbook; it is that one God made everything, and made it good.
Was the New Testament canon decided politically at Nicaea?
No. Nicaea (325) addressed the divinity of Christ, not the canon. The 27 books were already in widespread use; the formal lists came later, ratifying what the Church had long received.
Why does Orthodoxy keep the old calendar, fasting, and Tradition?
Because the Tradition is the lived memory of the Church — the way the apostolic faith has been prayed, fasted, sung, and handed down. It is not legalism; it is how love stays specific across centuries.
Is salvation by faith alone, by works, or by something else?
Salvation is by God's grace, received through faith that works through love. The Orthodox view is not faith vs. works but the whole person — heart, mind, and life — being healed and transformed in Christ.
Did Noah's flood actually happen?

What is heaven actually like?

Will I see my loved ones again in heaven?
Yes. The Resurrection is bodily and personal — you do not lose your name or your face in eternity. Christ, who recognized his disciples after rising, will not let you forget the ones you loved.
Why doesn't God answer my prayers?
He does — sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes wait. "Unanswered" usually means "not the answer I wanted." The Father who let his own Son pray "let this cup pass" understands.
How do I know God's will for my life?
Most of God's will is already revealed — love him, love your neighbor, do justice, walk humbly, be holy. For specific decisions, ask for wisdom, seek wise counsel, pray, and act in trust.
What do I do when God feels silent?
Keep showing up. The saints describe long stretches of felt absence as a normal part of the spiritual life — not a sign of God's rejection, but often the deeper school of trust.
Why does God allow the devil to exist?
The devil is a fallen angel God created good. God allows him a leash, not a throne. His defeat was sealed at the Cross; his sentence is being carried out in history.

How do I deal with shame and guilt?

What if I'm struggling with addiction or sexual sin?

What does "born again" actually mean?
