Day 16 · The Nativity Fast
We Have Found the Messiah
“One of the two who heard John and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).”John 1:40-41
Reflection
Today, November 30, the Church remembers the holy Apostle Andrew, called the First-Called because he was among the first to follow Jesus. After spending one afternoon with him, Andrew went straight to find his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” The Messiah the prophets promised is not an idea. He is someone you can meet, follow, and introduce to others. The Fast is a good time to ask whom we might bring, gently, to meet him.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, through the prayers of your holy Apostle Andrew, the First-Called, give me his eagerness to follow you and his simple joy in telling others. Let my life point to you, the Messiah, the Christ. Amen.
Carry this with you
Is there someone you could invite, gently, to church or to prayer this season?
