Day 21 · The Nativity Fast
Beautiful Feet
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!””Isaiah 52:7
Reflection
Isaiah imagines a runner coming over the mountains to a ruined city, shouting good news: peace, salvation, “Your God reigns!” St Paul quotes this verse about those who preach the Gospel (Romans 10:15). At Bethlehem the angel became that messenger to the shepherds: “I bring you good news of great joy” (Luke 2:10). Every Christian is meant to carry some of that news, not only with words, but with a peaceful presence in a world full of bad news.
A prayer
Lord, you sent your angels with good news of great joy. Make me a bearer of your peace today. Guard my tongue from adding to the world's bad news, and let my words and my presence carry something of your Gospel. Amen.
Carry this with you
Share one piece of good news, or one word of encouragement, with someone today.
