A Blessing for All the Families of the Earth
“I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”Genesis 12:2-3
Reflection
God called Abram out of his homeland with a promise that reached far beyond one family: “All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.” For centuries that promise must have seemed impossibly large. Abraham waited years for a son; his descendants became slaves in Egypt, and later exiles in Babylon. Yet God was faithful. In Christ, born of Abraham's line, the blessing goes out to every nation. Waiting for God is rarely tidy, but it is never wasted.
A prayer
God of Abraham, you keep your promises across the centuries. When your promises seem slow, give me Abraham's faith to keep walking. Make me, too, a small part of your blessing to the people around me today. Amen.
