Rest for the Weary

Day 5 · Rest for the Weary

Return and Rest

“For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, 'You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.'”Isaiah 30:15

Reflection

Israel was tempted to save itself by frantic effort and alliances; God's call was the opposite — return to Me, and rest. Our strength, He says, is found in quietness and confident trust, not in noise and hurry. This is the heart of all rest: coming back to God again and again, and letting our security rest in Him rather than in our own striving.

A prayer

Lord, I so easily try to secure my life by hurry and effort. Today I hear Your gentler call: to return to You, and rest. Quiet the noise within me. Let my strength be found not in striving but in confident trust in You. Again and again, draw me back to Yourself, the only true resting place for my soul. Amen.
