Day 8 · The Beatitudes
Persecuted for Righteousness
“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”Matthew 5:10
Reflection
Jesus ends with a hard blessing: for those who suffer for doing right. Following Him will sometimes cost us — misunderstanding, rejection, opposition. Yet even here there is blessing, for theirs is the kingdom. We are not promised an easy road, but a sure reward and the presence of the King who walked this road before us. Faithfulness, even when it costs, is never wasted.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, You warned that following You would sometimes be costly, and You walked that road ahead of me. Where doing right brings rejection or opposition, give me courage to stay faithful. Help me not to be surprised by the cost, nor to shrink from it, but to trust the blessing You promise. Yours is the kingdom, and that is enough. Amen.
Carry this with you
Where might faithfulness to Jesus be costing you something, and how can His promise steady you?
