The Jesus Prayer
Five days with the prayer of the heart
A plain introduction to the Jesus Prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner,” as the Orthodox Church has long taught it: where its words come from in Scripture, how to begin praying it, and why a fuller rule is taken on with guidance.
This short plan introduces the Jesus Prayer as the Orthodox Church has long taught it. A regular rule of prayer, especially one with many repetitions, a prayer rope, or attention to the breath, is best taken on with the blessing and guidance of your priest or spiritual father. The prayer is not a technique for producing feelings, and this plan is not a substitute for pastoral care, counseling, or medical help.
