Contentment & Provision

Day 3 · Contentment & Provision

Learning to Be Content

“Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.”Philippians 4:11-12

Reflection

Paul speaks of contentment as something he learned, not something he simply possessed from the start. This is freeing news, because it means contentment can grow in us as well, slowly and through ordinary days. It is not pretending we have no needs, but discovering that our peace was never anchored in our circumstances to begin with.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, I confess that my heart is restless and quick to measure what I have against what others seem to enjoy. Teach me, as You taught Paul, the quiet secret of contentment in plenty and in need. Help me to receive each day as a gift rather than weighing it against my fears. May my peace rest in You and not in the size of what I hold. Amen.

Carry this with you

What is one small thing I already have today that I can receive with gratitude rather than comparison?
