Forgiveness

Day 4 · Forgiveness

When Forgiving Is Hard

“Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I don't tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven."”Matthew 18:21-22

Reflection

Jesus knew that forgiveness is rarely finished in a single attempt; old hurts can rise again, and we may need to forgive the same wound many times over. This is not failure but faithfulness, returning to grace as often as the pain returns. Be gentle with yourself, for even Peter needed the Lord's patience.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, you were not surprised that forgiving is hard, and you are not disappointed when I have to do it again. When the old hurt resurfaces, meet me there with fresh mercy and quiet strength. Teach me to forgive not once but as often as I need to, leaning on you each time. Thank you for your steady patience with me. Amen.

Carry this with you

Is there a wound you thought you had forgiven that keeps returning, and how might you bring it back to God with patience?
