Joy That Lasts

Day 4 · Joy That Lasts

Joy Even in Trials

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.”James 1:2-3

Reflection

James does not tell us to feel happy about hardship — that would be pretending. He tells us to count it joy, to reckon that something valuable is being formed even here. Trials, in God's hands, are not pointless; they grow an endurance that nothing else can. Joy in trials is honest about the pain and confident about the purpose.

A prayer

Father, I would never have chosen these hard things, yet I trust that You are doing something in them I cannot yet see. Help me to count it joy — not by denying the difficulty, but by trusting Your purpose within it. Grow endurance in me, and let me find a deeper gladness in becoming more like Jesus through it all. Amen.

Carry this with you

What good might God be forming in you through a current trial?
