Day 3 · Loving Difficult People
See the Heart
“...for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7
Reflection
Difficult people are rarely only difficult; behind the behavior is often pain, fear, or a story we cannot see. God looks past the surface to the heart. He invites us to a measure of the same compassion — not excusing the harm, but remembering there is a whole person there, made in His image and known by Him. Compassion does not mean weakness; it means seeing as God sees.
A prayer
Father, You see what I cannot — the heart behind the behavior, the pain or fear that may drive it. Help me to see this difficult person as more than the trouble they cause me: as someone made in Your image, fully known by You. Give me compassion without naivety, and soften the hardness in my own heart toward them. Amen.
Carry this with you
What might be going on beneath the surface of the difficult person's behavior, and how could that shift your heart?
