Loving Difficult People

Day 4 · Loving Difficult People

Overcome Evil with Good

“Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”Romans 12:21

Reflection

When we are wronged, we are tempted to respond in kind — to repay coldness with coldness, harm with harm. Paul shows a better way: overcome evil with good. A deliberate kindness can disarm hostility and break the cycle in a way retaliation never can. This is not weakness but strength under God's control — refusing to let someone else's evil set the terms of our behavior.

A prayer

Lord, when I am wronged, I want to repay in kind — and that only deepens the cycle. Give me the strength to overcome evil with good instead. Show me a concrete, deliberate kindness I could offer the difficult person, not to win or manipulate, but to reflect You. Don't let me be overcome by their behavior; let Your goodness work through me. Amen.

Carry this with you

What specific good could you do, in place of repaying harm, toward someone difficult?
