Repentance

Day 2 · Repentance

An Honest Heart

“Have mercy on me, God, according to your loving kindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin.”Psalm 51:1-2

Reflection

Honesty before God is not the same as self-punishment. We can name what we have done plainly, without hiding and without sinking into shame, because we are speaking to One whose loving kindness is greater than our failure. To confess is simply to agree with God in the light, where healing can begin.

A prayer

Merciful God, I bring You what I would rather keep hidden, trusting Your tender mercy more than my fear. Wash what is unclean in me and quiet the noise of my shame. Help me to be honest without despair, knowing You receive a humble heart with gentleness. Cleanse me, and let me rest in Your kindness. Amen.

Carry this with you

Is there something you have been hiding that you could bring honestly into God's gentle light today?
