Day 2 · Spiritual Warfare
Sober and Watchful
“Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.”1 Peter 5:8-9
Reflection
To be sober is not to be anxious but to be clear-eyed and awake, taking temptation seriously without being ruled by fear. Peter reminds us that we are not alone in this struggle; believers across the whole world face the same testing and stand by the same faith. The lion roars to frighten, but the answer is not panic. It is steadfastness rooted in Christ.
A prayer
Father, give me a calm and watchful heart today, neither careless nor fearful. Help me to recognize temptation for what it is and to turn quickly to You. Remind me that I stand alongside countless brothers and sisters who also lean on Your faithfulness. When the enemy tries to frighten me, let me stand steadfast, knowing You are near. Amen.
