Day 2 · The Beatitudes
Those Who Mourn
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”Matthew 5:4
Reflection
Jesus blesses the mourners — an astonishing thing to say. He does not rush past sorrow or shame it, but promises that those who grieve, whether over loss or over their own sin, will be comforted. God draws near to the sorrowing. To mourn is not a lack of faith; in God's kingdom, it is met with His own comfort.
A prayer
Lord, I bring You the sorrows I carry — my griefs, my losses, the things in me I grieve. Thank You that You do not tell me to hurry past them, but promise comfort to those who mourn. Draw near to my sadness. Be the comfort that my heart needs, and let me weep, if I must, in the safety of Your presence. Amen.
Carry this with you
What sorrow can you bring honestly to God, trusting His promise to comfort those who mourn?
