The Gentle
“Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.”Matthew 5:5
Reflection
The world says the earth belongs to the aggressive and self-asserting. Jesus says it belongs to the gentle — the meek, who hold their strength under God's control rather than grasping for their own way. Meekness is not weakness but trust: a willingness to let God defend and provide rather than seizing it ourselves. Such people, Jesus says, inherit everything.
A prayer
Father, I am tempted to grasp, to push, to insist on my own way. Teach me the strength of gentleness — to entrust my cause to You rather than forcing it myself. Where I am quick to assert and slow to yield, soften me. Help me to trust that what I release into Your hands is far safer than what I seize with my own. Amen.
