Pure in Heart
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”Matthew 5:8
Reflection
Purity of heart is singleness — a heart undivided, not pulled in a hundred directions by mixed motives and rival loves. Jesus promises that such people will see God. Our vision of God is clouded less by our circumstances than by our divided hearts. As God cleanses and unifies our desires, we begin to see Him more clearly in everything.
A prayer
Father, my heart is so often divided — wanting You, but also wanting so much else, with motives I cannot fully untangle. Purify my heart. Make it single, set on You above all. Cleanse what is tangled and double-minded in me, and give me the clear sight that comes from an undivided heart. I want to see You. Amen.
