Praying the Lord's Prayer

Day 1 · Praying the Lord's Prayer

Our Father in Heaven

“Pray like this: 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.'”Matthew 6:9

Reflection

Jesus teaches us to begin not with our requests but with relationship. 'Father' speaks of nearness and belonging; 'in heaven' of greatness and holiness. We come as children who are genuinely loved, yet into the presence of One infinitely above us. Prayer starts by holding both truths at once: we are welcomed, and we are in the presence of God.

A prayer

Our Father in heaven, before I ask You for anything, let me simply rest in being Yours. Thank You that I may call You Father — not from a distance, but as a child who is known and loved. Lift my eyes to remember how great You are, and steady my heart to remember how near You are. Teach me to pray as Jesus taught, beginning here, with You. Amen.

Carry this with you

What changes in your prayers when you begin by remembering that you are God's beloved child?
