Waiting on God

Day 1 · Waiting on God

Honest in the Waiting

“I wait for Yahweh. My soul waits. I hope in his word. My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”Psalm 130:5-6

Reflection

Waiting is one of the hardest places to pray, because it can feel as though nothing is happening at all. Yet the psalmist does not hide his longing; he names it plainly before God, comparing himself to a watchman aching for the first light of dawn. You are allowed to tell God how long the night has felt. Honest waiting is still faith, and it is welcome in his presence.

A prayer

Lord, I come to you in the middle of my waiting, and I will not pretend it is easy. You see how my heart longs for an answer, and you know the prayers I have prayed again and again. Teach me to wait the way a watchman waits for morning, certain that the light will come even when the dark feels long. Hold my longing gently, and let your word be the hope I lean on tonight. Amen.

Carry this with you

What is the longing you have been carrying to God, and can you name it to him as honestly as the psalmist did?
