Work & Vocation

Day 3 · Work & Vocation

When Work Feels Like Toil

“There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.”Ecclesiastes 2:24

Reflection

Honest faith does not pretend that work is always joyful; Scripture itself names the frustration and tiredness we know so well. And yet, even within the toil, there is grace to receive: the simple goodness of food, of rest, and of a little quiet enjoyment in our labor as a gift from God's hand. We are invited not to escape our work but to look for the small mercies hidden inside it.

A prayer

Gracious God, You know the days when my work feels heavy and thankless. Thank You that You do not ask me to pretend, but welcome me to bring my weariness honestly to You. Help me to notice the small gifts within my day, and to receive even ordinary moments as coming from Your hand. Give me strength for today and a contented heart in the midst of it. Amen.

Carry this with you

What is one small good thing in my work today that I can pause to receive with gratitude?
