Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

Day 1 · Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

The Light Shines in the Darkness

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn't overcome it.”John 1:4-5

Reflection

Advent begins in the dark. Before the carols and the candlelight, there was a long, quiet ache for a world set right, and into that ache God promised a Light no shadow could put out. As we begin this week, we are not pretending everything is bright; we are honestly naming the darkness and turning, in hope, toward the One who entered it.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, true Light of the world, I come to you at the start of this Advent journey. You see the places in me and around me that feel dim and uncertain, and I trust that your light is not overcome by any of them. Teach me this week to wait with patience and to hope without fear. Shine gently into my heart, and prepare me to welcome you. Amen.

Carry this with you

Where in your life are you most longing for light to break in this season?
