Day 2 · Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week
A Watchman Waiting for Morning
“I wait for Yahweh. My soul waits. I hope in his word. My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”Psalm 130:5-6
Reflection
Waiting is at the heart of Advent, and the psalmist gives us a tender picture of it: a watchman through the long night, sure that morning is coming even before the first light appears. This is not anxious waiting but trusting waiting, anchored in God's word and his faithfulness. We can hold our hopes before God honestly, leaning on his goodness as the dawn draws near.
A prayer
Faithful God, like a watchman through the night, I set my hope in your word. There are things I long for that have not yet come, and you know each one. Help me to wait for you with quiet confidence, neither striving nor despairing, but resting in your goodness. Steady my soul until the morning of your mercy breaks. Amen.
Carry this with you
What might it look like for you to wait on God with trust rather than worry today?
