Liturgical Season
Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week
Seven days for the Western season of Advent, the weeks of preparation before Christmas
A gentle week of prayer for Advent, the season of preparation that most Western Christians keep in the four weeks before Christmas. Orthodox Christians prepare for the same feast with the forty-day Nativity Fast, which begins on November 15 (see the plan “The Nativity Fast”). Each day pairs a short passage of Scripture with a warm reflection and prayer to help you make room for the Light.
This plan is a devotional companion for the Advent season, meant to gently support your own prayer and worship within your church community. It is not a substitute for pastoral care, counseling, or medical help; if you are carrying a heavy burden this season, please reach out to your priest or spiritual father, or a trusted pastor, friend, or professional.
