Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

Day 3 · Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

Prepare the Way

“The voice of one who calls out, "Prepare the way of Yahweh in the wilderness! Make a level highway in the desert for our God."”Isaiah 40:3

Reflection

Advent invites us not only to wait but to prepare. The prophet pictures clearing a road through rough country so the King can come, and that work of preparation begins first in the heart. Making room for Christ may mean setting down a grudge, softening a hardened place, or simply slowing down enough to listen.

A prayer

Lord, you are coming, and I want to make room for you. Show me the rough and crowded places in my heart that keep me from receiving you fully. Smooth what is rocky, fill what is empty, and gently straighten what has wandered. Prepare a way within me, that I may welcome you with joy. Amen.

Carry this with you

What is one thing you could clear away this week to make more room for Christ?
