Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

Day 4 · Waiting for the Light: An Advent Week

The People Who Walked in Darkness

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. The light has shined on those who lived in the land of the shadow of death.”Isaiah 9:2

Reflection

Long before the manger, God spoke of a great light dawning on people worn down by struggle and grief. Advent reminds us that God does not wait for us to find our own way out of the dark; he comes to us where we are. The light shines on us as a gift, before we have done anything to deserve it.

A prayer

Gracious God, you come looking for me even in the shadows. Thank you that your light is a gift of grace, not a reward I must earn. Where I feel weary or far off, let your warmth reach me. Lift my eyes to the great Light you have promised, and fill me with hope. Amen.

Carry this with you

How have you seen God's light reach you in a difficult season?
