Forgiveness

Day 1 · Forgiveness

The Mercy We Have Been Given

“And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.”Ephesians 4:32

Reflection

Before forgiveness is ever something we offer, it is something we have already received. God did not wait for us to earn his mercy; he came to us in Christ while we were still far off and welcomed us home. As we remember how freely we have been forgiven, even a tightly held heart can slowly begin to loosen.

A prayer

Gracious God, thank you for the mercy you have poured out on me in Christ, mercy I could never have earned. Help me to sense, even a little, how deeply I am loved and forgiven by you. As I begin these days, soften my heart and prepare me for the gentle work ahead. I do not ask to do this in my own strength, but in yours. Amen.

Carry this with you

When have you most clearly felt forgiven by God, and what was that like for you?
