1 And it came to pass afterward, that David smote the Philistines, and routed them, and took Gath and its villages out of the hand of the Philistines.
1 After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David, [and] tributaries.
2 He defeated Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
3 And David smote Hadadezer king of Zobah of Hamath, as he was going to establish power toward the river Euphrates.
3 David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah, toward Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
4 And David took of them a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand infantry: and David houghed all the chariot [horses], but there were reserved of them a hundred chariots.
4 David took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them enough for one hundred chariots.
5 And the Syrian came from Damascus to help Hadadezer king of Zobah; and David smote of the Syrian [army] twenty and two thousand men.
5 When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.
6 And David put a garrison in Syria near Damascus; and they became tributary servants to David: and the Lord delivered David wherever he went.
6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.
7 And David took the golden collars that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
7 David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 And David took out of Tibhath, and out of the chief cities of Hadadezer very much brass: of this Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the brazen vessels.
8 From Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took very much bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.
9 And Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten the whole force of Hadadezer king of Zobah.
9 When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
10 And he sent Hadoram his son to King David to ask how he was, and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him; for Tou was the enemy of Hadadezer.
10 he sent Hadoram his son to King David to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou); and he had with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and bronze.
11 And all the golden and silver and brazen vessels, even these King David consecrated to the Lord, with the silver and the gold which he took from all the nations; from Edom, and Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
11 King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations: from Edom, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
12 And Abishai son of Zeruiah smote the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, eighteen thousand.
