WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon) 1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, 1 EN aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,
1 At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
2 and said to his servants, This is John the baptist: he is risen from the dead, and because of this these works of power display their force in him.
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”
3 For Herod had seized John, and had bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother. 3 Porque Herodes había prendido á Juan, y le había aprisionado y puesto en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;
3 For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 For John said to him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
4 For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
5 And [while] desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him for a prophet.
5 When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6 But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod; 6 Mas celebrándose el día del nacimiento de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó á Herodes.
6 But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.
7 whereupon he promised with oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.
7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
8 But she, being set on by her mother, says, Give me here upon a dish the head of John the baptist.
8 She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”
9 And the king was grieved; but on account of the oaths, and those lying at table with [him], he commanded [it] to be given.
9 The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,
10 And he sent and beheaded John in the prison; 10 Y enviando, degolló á Juan en la cárcel.
10 and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 and his head was brought upon a dish, and was given to the damsel, and she carried [it] to her mother.
11 His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.
12 And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and came and brought word to Jesus.
12 His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
13 And Jesus, having heard it, went away thence by ship to a desert place apart. And the crowds having heard [of it] followed him on foot from the cities.
13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 And going out he saw a great crowd, and was moved with compassion about them, and healed their infirm.
14 Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 But when even was come, his disciples came to him saying, The place is desert, and [much of] the [day] time already gone by; dismiss the crowds, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.
15 When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
16 But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go: give ye them to eat.
16 But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 But they say to him, We have not here save five loaves and two fishes.
17 They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”
18 And he said, Bring them here to me. 18 Y él les dijo: Traédmelos acá.
18 He said, “Bring them here to me.”
19 And having commanded the crowds to recline upon the grass, having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed: and having broken the loaves, he gave [them] to the disciples, and the disciples [gave them] to the crowds.
19 He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.
20 And all ate and were filled, and they took up what was over and above of fragments twelve hand-baskets full.
20 They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.
21 But those that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
21 Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.
22 And immediately he compelled the disciples to go on board ship, and to go on before him to the other side, until he should have dismissed the crowds.
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 And having dismissed the crowds, he went up into the mountain apart to pray. And when even was come, he was alone there, 23 Y despedidas las gentes, subió al monte, apartado, á orar: y como fué la tarde del día, estaba allí solo.
23 After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.
24 but the ship was already in the middle of the sea tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 But in the fourth watch of the night he went off to them, walking on the sea.
25 In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
26 And the disciples, seeing him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, It is an apparition. And they cried out through fear.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.
27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them, saying, Take courage; it is I: be not afraid. 27 Mas luego Jesús les habló, diciendo: Confiad, yo soy; no tengáis miedo.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
28 And Peter answering him said, Lord, if it be thou, command me to come to thee upon the waters.
28 Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”
29 And he said, Come. And Peter, having descended from the ship, walked upon the waters to go to Jesus.
29 He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
30 But seeing the wind strong he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me. 30 Mas viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzándose á hundir, dió voces, diciendo: Señor, sálvame.
30 But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught hold of him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt?
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32 And when they had gone up into the ship, the wind fell.
32 When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 But those in the ship came and did homage to him, saying, Truly thou art God's Son. 33 Entonces los que estaban en el barco, vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios.
33 Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”
34 And having crossed over they came to the land of Gennesaret.
34 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 And when the men of that place recognised him, they sent to that whole country around, and they brought to him all that were ill, 35 Y como le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron á él todos los enfermos;
35 When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;
36 and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment; and as many as touched were made thoroughly well.
36 and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
