ONBV Biblica Open New Living Bible (Nueva Biblia Viva 2008)
WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon)
1 For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Isn’t David hiding himself among us?” Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.
2 ¡Escucha mi oración! Presta atención a mi súplica.
2 Hear my prayer, God. Listen to the words of my mouth.
3 Porque gente desconocida me está atacando; hombres violentos tratan de matarme; hombres a quienes Dios no les importa.
3 For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven’t set God before them. Selah.
4 Pero Dios es mi auxilio. El Señor es quien me sostiene vivo.
4 Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.
5 Él hará que las maldades de mis enemigos se vuelvan contra ellos mismos. Haz como lo prometiste y acaba con estos malvados.
5 He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
6 Te presentaré una ofrenda voluntaria y alabaré, Señor, tu buen nombre.
6 With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will give thanks to your name, Yahweh, for it is good.
7 Dios me ha rescatado de toda mi tribulación, y me ha ayudado a triunfar sobre mis enemigos.
7 For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LIII)

Of this Psalm we undertake to treat with you, as far as the Lord supplieth us. A brother biddeth us that we may have the will, and prayeth that we may have the power.
