Psalms 111–113 (112–114) Brenton

Psalm 111 (112)

1 Alleluia. Blessed is the man that fears the Lord: he will delight greatly in his commandments. 2 His seed shall be mighty in the earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3 Glory and riches shall be in his house; and his righteousness endures for evermore. 4 To the upright light has sprung up in darkness: he is pitiful, and merciful, and righteous. 5 The good man is he that pities and lends: he will direct his affairs with judgment. 6 For he shall not be moved for ever; the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. 7 He shall not be afraid of [any] evil report: his heart is ready to trust in the Lord. 8 His heart is established, he shall not fear, till he shall see [his desire] upon his enemies. 9 He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures for evermore: his horn shall be exalted with honour. 10 The sinner shall see and be angry, he shall gnash his teeth, and consume away: the desire of the sinner shall perish.

Psalm 112 (113)

1 Alleluia. Praise the Lord, ye servants [of his], praise the name of the Lord. 2 Let the name of the Lord be blessed, from this present time and for ever. 3 From the rising of the sun to his setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised. 4 The Lord is high above all the nations; his glory is above the heavens. 5 Who is as the Lord our God? who dwells in the high places, 6 and [yet] looks upon the low things in heaven, and on the earth: 7 who lifts up the poor from the earth, and raises up the needy from the dunghill; 8 to set him with princes, [even] with the princes of his people: 9 who settles the barren [woman] in a house, [as] a mother rejoicing over children.

Psalm 113 (114–115)

1 Alleluia. At the going forth of Israel from Egypt, of the house of Jacob from a barbarous people, 2 Judea became his sanctuary, [and] Israel his dominion. 3 The sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back. 4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the hills like lambs. 5 What [ailed] thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? and thou Jordan, that thou wast turned back? 6 [Ye] mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and [ye] hills, like lambs? 7 The earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; 8 who turned the rock into pools of water, and the flint into fountains of water. 9 Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to thy name give glory, because of thy mercy and thy truth; 10 lest at any time the nations should say, Where is their God? 11 But our God has done in heaven and on earth, whatsoever he has pleased. 12 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands. 13 They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see: 14 they have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses, but they cannot smell; 15 they have hands, but they cannot handle; they have feet, but they cannot walk: they cannot speak through their throat. 16 Let those that make them become like to them, and all who trust in them. 17 The house of Israel trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender. 18 The house of Aaron trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender. 19 They that fear the Lord trust in the Lord: he is their helper and defender. 20 The Lord has remembered us, and blessed us: he has blessed the house of Israel, he has blessed the house of Aaron. 21 He has blessed them that fear the Lord, both small and great. 22 The Lord add [blessings] to you and to your children. 23 Blessed are ye of the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth. 24 The heaven of heavens [belongs] to the Lord: but he has given the earth to the sons of men. 25 The dead shall not praise thee, O Lord, nor any that go down to Hades. 26 But we, the living, will bless the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.

Romans 13 WEB

Romans 13

1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. 2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority, 4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. 5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing. 7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. 8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. 11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light. 13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
