3 Doy gracias á Dios, al cual sirvo desde mis mayores con limpia conciencia, de que sin cesar tengo memoria de ti en mis oraciones noche y día;
4 Deseando verte, acordándome de tus lágrimas, para ser lleno de gozo;
10 Mas ahora es manifestada por la aparición de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, el cual quitó la muerte, y sacó á la luz la vida y la inmortalidad por el evangelio;
17 Antes, estando él en Roma, me buscó solícitamente, y me halló.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 1:1 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Second Timothy (Homily I)

    What is the reason of his writing this second Epistle to Timothy? He had said, "I hope to come unto thee shortly" (1 Tim. iii.
