4 Вот причина, почему обрезал Иисус [сынов Израилевых, которые тогда родились на пути, и которые из вышедших из Египта не были тогда обрезаны, всех их обрезал Иисус]: весь народ, вышедший из Египта, мужеского пола, все способные к войне умерли в пустыне на пути, по исшествии из Египта;
5 весь же вышедший народ был обрезан, но весь народ, родившийся в пустыне на пути, после того как вышел из Египта, не был обрезан;
10 И стояли сыны Израилевы станом в Галгале и совершили Пасху в четырнадцатый день месяца вечером на равнинах Иерихонских;
11 и на другой день Пасхи стали есть из произведений земли сей, опресноки и сушеные зерна в самый тот день;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).
