2 Y díjome: ¿Qué ves? Y respondí: He mirado, y he aquí un candelero todo de oro, con su vaso sobre su cabeza, y sus siete lámparas encima del candelero; y siete canales para las lámparas que están encima de él;
4 И҆ вопроси́хъ и҆ рѣ́хъ ко а҆́гг҃лꙋ глаго́лющемꙋ во мнѣ̀ глаго́лѧ: что̀ сꙋ́ть сїѧ̑, го́споди;
Y dije: No, señor mío.
8 Y fué palabra de Jehová á mí, diciendo:
11 И҆ ѿвѣща́хъ и҆ рѣ́хъ къ немꙋ̀: что̀ сꙋ́ть двѣ̀ ма̑слины сїѧ̑, ꙗ҆̀же ѡ҆деснꙋ́ю свѣ́щника и҆ ѡ҆шꙋ́юю;
12 И҆ вопроси́хъ втори́цею и҆ рѣ́хъ къ немꙋ̀: что̀ сꙋ́ть двѣ̀ вѣ̑тви ма̑сличны, ꙗ҆̀же въ рꙋкꙋ̀ двꙋ́хъ ᲂу҆сѣка́льницъ златы́хъ возлива́ющихъ и҆ возноша́ющихъ ча̑шицы златы̑ѧ;
Y dije: Señor mío, no.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 4:10 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture VI)

    Some again dared to say that He has seven eyes, because it is written, seven eyes of the Lord looking upon the whole earth.
