1 A Psalm. Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
2 YHWH has made His salvation known, || Before the eyes of the nations, || He has revealed His righteousness,
2 Yahweh has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered His kindness, || And His faithfulness to the house of Israel, || All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

4 Shout to YHWH, all the earth, || Break forth, and cry aloud, and sing.
4 Cantad alegres á Jehová, toda la tierra; levantad la voz, y aplaudid, y salmead.
4 Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!
5 Sing to YHWH with harp, || With harp, and voice of praise,
5 Sing praises to Yahweh with the harp, with the harp and the voice of melody.

7 The sea and its fullness roar, || The world and the inhabitants in it.
7 Brame la mar y su plenitud; el mundo y los que en él habitan;
7 Let the sea roar with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell therein.
8 Floods clap hand, together hills cry aloud,
8 Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the mountains sing for joy together.
9 Before YHWH, || For He has come to judge the earth, || He judges the world in righteousness, || And the people in uprightness!
9 Let them sing before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

But as bringing salvation, thus: "God hath made known His salvation (salutare) in the sight of the heathen." For He is indeed Saviour, as being the Son and Word of God; but salutary, …
