1 David y los oficiales del santuario apartaron a Asaf, Hemán y Jedutún para que se encargaran de la música. Estos profetizaban acompañándose de arpas, liras y címbalos. La siguiente es la lista de todos los que fueron apartados para este servicio:
1 ASIMISMO David y los príncipes del ejército apartaron para el ministerio á los hijos de Asaph, y de Hemán, y de Jeduthún, los cuales profetizasen con arpas, salterios, y címbalos: y el número de ellos fué, de hombres [idóneos] para la obra de su ministerio respectivo:
2 Bajo la dirección de Asaf, profeta privado del rey, estaban sus hijos Zacur, José, Netanías y Asarela.
2 De los hijos de Asaph: Zachûr, José, Methanías, y Asareela, hijos de Asaph, bajo la dirección de Asaph, el cual profetizaba á la orden del rey.
3 Bajo Jedutún, que guiaba en la acción de gracias y alabanza al Señor (mientras eran acompañados por el arpa), estaban sus seis hijos: Guedalías, Zeri, Isaías, Jasabías, Matatías y Simí.
3 De Jeduthún: los hijos de Jeduthún, Gedalías, Sesi, Jesaías, Hasabías, y Mathithías, [y Simi]: seis, bajo la mano de su padre Jeduthún, el cual profetizaba con arpa, para celebrar y alabar á Jehová.
4 Bajo la dirección de Hemán, profeta al servicio del rey, estaban sus hijos: Buquías, Matanías, Uziel, Sebuel, Jeremot, Jananías, Jananí, Eliatá, Guidalti, Romanti Ezer, Josbecasa, Malotí, Hotir y Mahaziot (Porque Dios lo había bendecido con catorce hijos y tres hijas, cumpliendo así su promesa de que haría de él un hombre muy poderoso).
4 De Hemán: los hijos de Hemán, Buccia, Mathanía, Uzziel, Sebuel, Jerimoth, Hananías, Hanani, Eliatha, Gidalthi, Romamti-ezer, Josbecasa, Mallothi, Othir, y Mahazioth.

5 Todos estos fueron hijos de Hemán, vidente del rey en palabras de Dios, para ensalzar el poder [suyo]: y dió Dios á Hemán catorce hijos y tres hijas.
6 El ministerio de la música a cargo de ellos incluía el tocar los címbalos, arpas y liras, todo bajo la dirección de su padre, mientras desempeñaban su ministerio en el santuario. Asaf, Jedutún y Hemán rendían informe directamente al rey. Ellos y sus familiares estaban adiestrados para cantar alabanzas al Señor. Eran doscientos ochenta y ocho en total, siendo cada uno de ellos maestro de música.
6 Y todos estos estaban bajo la dirección de su padre en la música, en la casa de Jehová, con címbalos, salterios y arpas, para el ministerio del templo de Dios, por disposición del rey [acerca] de Asaph, de Jeduthún, y de Hemán.

7 Y el número de ellos con sus hermanos instruídos en música de Jehová, todos los aptos, fué doscientos ochenta y ocho.
8 Los cantores eran nombrados para su turno particular de servicios mediante sorteo, sin considerar la edad o reputación.
8 Y echaron suertes para los turnos [del servicio], [entrando] el pequeño con el grande, lo mismo el maestro que el discípulo.
9 El primer sorteo indicó a José, del clan de Asaf; el segundo, a Guedalías junto con doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el tercero, a Zacur, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el cuarto, a Izri, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el quinto, a Netanías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el sexto, a Buquías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el séptimo, a Jesarela, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el octavo, a Isaías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el noveno, a Matanías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el décimo, a Simí, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el undécimo, a Azarel, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el duodécimo, a Jasabías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimotercero, a Subael, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimocuarto, a Matatías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimoquinto, a Jeremot, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimosexto, a Jananías, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimoseptimo, a Josbecasa, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimoctavo, a Jananí, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el decimonoveno, a Malotí, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos: el vigésimo, a Eliatá, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el vigesimoprimero, a Hotir, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el vigesimosegundo, a Guidalti, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el vigesimotercero, a Mahaziot, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos; el vigesimocuarto, a Romanti Ezer, y doce de sus hijos y hermanos.
9 Y la primera suerte salió por Asaph, á José: la segunda á Gedalías, quien con sus hermanos é hijos fueron doce;
