1 Y JEHOVÁ habló á Moisés, diciendo:
5 И когда введет тебя Господь [Бог твой] в землю Хананеев и Хеттеев, и Аморреев, и Евеев, и Иевусеев, [Гергесеев, и Ферезеев,] о которой клялся Он отцам твоим, что даст тебе землю, где течет молоко и мед, то совершай сие служение в сем месяце;
6 семь дней ешь пресный хлеб, и в седьмой день — праздник Господу;
14 И когда после спросит тебя сын твой, говоря: что это? то скажи ему: рукою крепкою вывел нас Господь из Египта, из дома рабства;
14 Y cuando mañana te preguntare tu hijo, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto? decirle has: Jehová nos sacó con mano fuerte de Egipto, de casa de servidumbre;
15 ибо когда фараон упорствовал отпустить нас, Господь умертвил всех первенцев в земле Египетской, от первенца человеческого до первенца из скота, — посему я приношу в жертву Господу все, разверзающее ложесна, мужеского пола, а всякого первенца из сынов моих выкупаю;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 13:3 Augustine of Hippo, Tractates on the Gospel of John (Chapter VIII — 31-36)

    If you were never in bondage to any man, ungrateful people, why is it that God is continually reminding you that He delivered you from the house of bondage? Or mean you, perchance, that your fathers were in bondage, but you who speak were never in bondage to any man?

  2. Quotes verse 13:21 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm LXVIII)

    … dropped from the face of God." Perchance here some one calleth to mind that time, when in the desert God was going over before His people, before the sons of Israel, by day in the pillar of cloud, by night in the brightness of fire; and determineth that thus it is that "the heavens dropped from the face of God," …
