WEB World English Bible (Classic, with Deuterocanon)
1 Zato rekoh: Čujte, poglavice Jakovljeve i knezovi doma Izrailjevog, ne treba li vam znati šta je pravo?
1 I said, “Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn’t it for you to know justice?
2 Koji mrzite na dobro, a ljubite zlo, sadirete kožu s njih i meso s kosti njihovih;
2 You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones;
3 I jedete meso naroda mog i sadirete kožu s njih i kosti im prebijate, i sasecate kao u lonac i kao meso u kotao.
3 who also eat the flesh of my people, and peel their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as meat within the cauldron.
4 Tada će vikati ka Gospodu, ali ih neće uslišiti, nego će sakriti lice svoje od njih u ono vreme, kako oni zlo radiše.
4 Then they will cry to Yahweh, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil.”
5 Ovako veli Gospod za proroke koji zavode moj narod, koji grizu zubima svojim i viču: Mir; i ako im ko ne da ništa u usta, dižu rat na nj.
5 Yahweh says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray—for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim, “Peace!” and whoever doesn’t provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him:
6 Zato će vam utvara biti noć i proricanje vaše tama; i sunce će zaći tim prorocima i dan će im se smračiti.
6 “Therefore night is over you, with no vision, and it is dark to you, that you may not divine; and the sun will go down on the prophets, and the day will be black over them.
7 Tada će se postideti videoci, i vračari će se posramiti, i svi će zastrti usne svoje, jer neće biti odgovora Božjeg.
7 The seers shall be disappointed, and the diviners confounded. Yes, they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.”
8 Ali ja sam pun sile od Duha Gospodnjeg, i suda i hrabrosti da kažem Jakovu zločinstvo njegovo i Izrailju greh njegov.
8 But as for me, I am full of power by Yahweh’s Spirit, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his disobedience, and to Israel his sin.
9 Čujte ovo, poglavice doma Jakovljevog i knezovi doma Izrailjevog, koji se gadite na pravdu, i sve što je pravo izvrćete;
9 Please listen to this, you heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice, and pervert all equity,
10 Koji gradite Sion krvlju i Jerusalim bezakonjem.
10 who build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11 Poglavari njegovi sude po mitu, i sveštenici njegovi uče za platu, i proroci njegovi gataju za novce, a na Gospoda se oslanjaju govoreći: Nije li Gospod usred nas? Neće doći zlo na nas.
11 Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money; yet they lean on Yahweh, and say, “Isn’t Yahweh among us? No disaster will come on us.”
12 Zato će se s vas Sion preorati kao njiva, i Jerusalim će postati gomila, i gora od doma visoka šuma.
12 Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

    … declared when He said, "Fill ye up the measure of your fathers." For from the first the prophets used to charge them with these things, saying, "Your hands are full of blood;" and, "They mingle blood with blood;" and, "They build up Sion with blood." But they did not learn self-restraint, albeit they received this commandment first, "Thou shalt not …
