8 зато овако вели Господ Господ: Ево и мене на те, и извршићу усред тебе судове на видику народима;
15 И бићеш руг и срамота и наук и чудо народима што су око тебе кад извршим судове на теби гневом, јарошћу и љутим карањем; ја Господ рекох;
Yo Jehová he hablado.
Yo Jehová he hablado.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 5:7 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily LXXV)

    And when any one surpasses in negligence those who are far inferior; wherewith in Ezekiel He doth charge them, saying, "Not even according to the judgments of the nations hast thou done." And when one is not sobered even by the examples of others, "She saw her sister," it is said, "and justified her." And when one has had the …
