Synodal Russian Synodal Bible (1876)
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
3 ¿Cómo escaparemos nosotros, si tuviéremos en poco una salud tan grande? La cual, habiendo comenzado á ser publicada por el Señor, ha sido confirmada hasta nosotros por los que oyeron;
5 Ибо не Ангелам Бог покорил будущую вселенную, о которой говорим;
7 Tú le hiciste un poco menor que los ángeles, coronástele de gloria y de honra, y pusístele sobre las obras de tus manos;
8 все покорил под ноги его. Когда же покорил ему все, то не оставил ничего непокоренным ему. Ныне же еще не видим, чтобы все было ему покорено;
13 Y otra vez: Yo confiaré en él. Y otra vez: He aquí, yo y los hijos que me dió Dios.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Commentary 2:5 John Chrysostom, Homilies on Hebrews (Homily IV)

    I could have wished to know for certain whether any hear with fitting earnestness the things that are said, whether we are not casting the seeds by the wayside: for in that case I should have made my instructions with more cheerfulness.

    … before His passion and after His resurrection, but also after their death by their successors, amid the horrible persecutions, diverse torments and deaths of the martyrs, God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost, that the people of the nations, believing in Him who was crucified for their redemption, …

  5. Quotes verse 2:8 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm VII)

    … which put all things under Him." And to the Hebrews he uses this very testimony from this Psalm, when he would have it to be understood that all things are in such sort put under our Lord Jesus Christ, as that nothing should be excepted. And yet he does not seem, as it were, to subjoin any great thing, when …
