7 De allí partieron á Gudgod, y de Gudgod á Jotbath, tierra de arroyos de aguas.
12 Ahora pues, Israel, ¿qué pide Jehová tu Dios de ti, sino que temas á Jehová tu Dios, que andes en todos sus caminos, y que lo ames, y sirvas á Jehová tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma;
13 храни́ти за́пѡвѣди гдⷭ҇а бг҃а твоегѡ̀ и҆ ѡ҆правда̑нїѧ є҆гѡ̀, є҆ли̑ка а҆́зъ заповѣ́даю тебѣ̀ дне́сь, да бла́го тебѣ̀ бꙋ́детъ;
17 Porque Jehová vuestro Dios es Dios de dioses, y Señor de señores, Dios grande, poderoso, y terrible, que no acepta persona, ni toma cohecho;

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 10:16 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Chapter IX)

    For "we," says the apostle, "have been circumcised with the circumcision made without hands." And the prophet declares, "Circumcise the hardness of your heart." But the Sabbaths taught that we should continue day by day in God's service.

  2. Quotes verse 10:12 Irenaeus of Lyons, Against Heresies (Book IV, Chapter IX)

    … "And now Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul?" Now these things did indeed make man glorious, by supplying what was wanting to him, …
