2 A David reče Ahisu: Sad ćeš videti šta će učiniti tvoj sluga.
3 A Samuilo beše umro, i plaka za njim sav Izrailj, i pogreboše ga u Rami, u njegovom gradu. I Saul beše istrebio iz zemlje gatare i vračare.
5 Saul pak videći vojsku filistejsku uplaši se, i srce mu uzdrhta veoma.
8 Tada se Saul preruši obukav druge haljine, i otide sa dva čoveka, i dođe k onoj ženi noću; i on joj reče: Hajde vračaj mi duhom vračarskim, i dozovi mi onog kog ti kažem.
A on reče: Samuila mi dozovi.
11 La mujer entonces dijo: ¿A quién te haré venir? Y él respondió: Hazme venir á Samuel.
12 A kad žena vide Samuila, povika glasno, i reče žena Saulu govoreći: Zašto si me prevario?
A žena reče Saulu: Bogove sam videla gde izlaze iz zemlje.
15 A Samuilo reče Saulu: Zašto si me uznemirio i izazvao?
15 Y Samuel dijo á Saúl: ¿Por qué me has inquietado haciéndome venir?
17 Gospod je učinio kako je kazao preko mene; jer je Gospod istrgao carstvo iz tvoje ruke i dao ga bližnjemu tvom Davidu;
18 jer nisi poslušao glas Gospodnji, niti si izvršio žestoki gnev Njegov na Amaliku; zato ti je danas Gospod to učinio.
21 Entonces la mujer vino á Saúl, y viéndole en grande manera turbado, díjole: He aquí que tu criada ha obedecido á tu voz, y he puesto mi vida en mi mano, y he oído las palabras que tú me has dicho.
23 A on ne hte, i reče: Neću jesti.
25 Potom postavi Saulu i slugama njegovim, te jedoše. A posle ustaše i otidoše iste noći.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 28:15 John Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Matthew (Homily LXII)

And that miserable man, for instance, until David departed, burst not forth into that piteous cry, bewail ing himself and saying, "I am sore distressed, and the Philistines make war against me, and the Lord is departed from me." Until he was separated from David, he fell not in war, but was both in safety and in glory; for indeed …
