1 A posle toga nabavi sebi Avesalom kola i konja i pedeset ljudi, koji trčahu pred njim.
8 Jer kad seđah u Gesuru u Siriji, učini zavet sluga tvoj rekavši: Ako me Gospod odvede natrag u Jerusalim, poslužiću Gospodu.
9 A car mu reče: Idi s mirom. I on se podiže i otide u Hevron.
13 Tada dođe glasnik k Davidu i reče: Srce Izrailju prista za Avesalomom.
15 A sluge careve rekoše caru: Šta je god volja caru gospodaru našem, evo sluga tvojih.
17 I kada otide car i sav narod pešice, ustaviše se na jednom mestu podaleko.
19 I reče car Itaju Getejinu: Što i ti ideš s nama?
Neka milost i vera bude s tobom.
22 Tada reče David Itaju: A ti hodi.
22 Entonces David dijo á Ittai: Ven [pues], y pasa.
23 I sva zemlja plakaše glasno i sav narod prelažaše. I tako car pređe preko potoka Kedrona, i sav narod pređe idući k pustinji.
24 A gle, i Sadok beše onde i svi Leviti s njim noseći kovčeg zaveta Božijeg; i spustiše kovčeg Božji, a pođe i Avijatar, dokle sav narod iziđe iz grada.
25 I reče car Sadoku: Nosi kovčeg Božji natrag u grad; ako nađem milost pred Gospodom, On će me dovesti natrag, i daće mi da opet vidim Njega i dom Njegov.
26 Ako li ovako kaže: Nisi mi mio; evo me, neka učini sa mnom šta mu bude volja.
29 I tako Sadok i Avijatar odnesoše kovčeg Božji natrag u Jerusalim, i ostaše onde.
31 Tada javiše Davidu i rekoše mu. A David reče: Razbij nameru Ahitofelovu, Gospode!
32 I kad David dođe navrh gore, gde se htede pokloniti Bogu, gle, srete ga Husaj Arhijanin razdrte haljine i glave posute prahom.
33 Y díjole David: Si pasares conmigo, serme has de carga;
35 I sveštenici Sadok i Avijatar neće li biti s tobom? Šta god čuješ iz kuće careve, dokaži Sadoku i Avijataru sveštenicima.
35 ¿No estarán allí contigo Sadoc y Abiathar sacerdotes?
37 I otide u grad Husaj prijatelj Davidov, i Avesalom dođe u Jerusalim.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 15:34–37 Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm VII)

Now the story which gave occasion to this prophecy may be easily recognised in the second book of Kings. For there Chusi, the friend of king David, went over to the side of Abessalon, his son, who was carrying on war against his father, for the purpose of discovering and reporting the designs which he was taking against his father, …
