4 U taj ću dan, govori Gospod, učiniti da svi konji budu plašljivi i svi konjanici bezumni; i otvoriću oči svoje na dom Judin, i oslepiću sve konje narodima.
12 I tužiće zemlja, svaka porodica napose; porodica doma Davidovog napose, i žene njihove napose; porodica doma Natanovog napose, i žene njihove napose;
12 Y la tierra lamentará, cada linaje de por sí; el linaje de la casa de David por sí, y sus mujeres por sí; el linaje de la casa de Nathán por sí, y sus mujeres por sí;
13 porodica doma Levijevog napose, i žene njihove napose; porodica Semejeva napose, i žene njihove napose;
13 El linaje de la casa de Leví por sí, y sus mujeres por sí; el linaje de Simei por sí, y sus mujeres por sí;
14 sve ostale porodice, svaka napose, i žene njihove napose.

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations).

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

  1. Quotes verse 12:9 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XX, Chapters 27–29)

    … of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and mercy; and they shall look upon me because they have insulted me, and they shall mourn for Him as for one very dear, and shall be in bitterness as for an only-begotten." To whom but to God does it belong to destroy all the nations that are …

  2. Quotes verse 12:1 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture XVI)

    For concerning our soul the Scripture says, His spirit shall go forth, and he shall return to his earth: and of the same soul it says again, Which formeth the spirit of man within him.
