1 (3-1) A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. (3-2) LORD, how many are mine adversaries become! Many are they that rise up against me.
1 A Psalm by David, when he fled from Absalom his son. Yahweh, how my adversaries have increased! Many are those who rise up against me.
2 (3-3) Many there are that say of my soul: 'There is no salvation for him in God.' Selah
(Selah.)
2 Many there are who say of my soul, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah.
3 (3-4) But thou, O LORD, art a shield about me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
3 But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4 (3-5) With my voice I call unto the LORD, and He answereth me out of His holy mountain. Selah
(Selah.)
4 I cry to Yahweh with my voice, and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 (3-6) I lay me down, and I sleep; I awake, for the LORD sustaineth me.
5 Yo me acosté, y dormí, y desperté; porque Jehová me sostuvo.
5 I laid myself down and slept. I awakened, for Yahweh sustains me.
6 (3-7) I am not afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
6 I will not be afraid of tens of thousands of people who have set themselves against me on every side.
7 (3-8) Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God; for Thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek, Thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.
7 Arise, Yahweh! Save me, my God! For you have struck all of my enemies on the cheek bone. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.
8 (3-9) Salvation belongeth unto the LORD; Thy blessing be upon Thy people. Selah
(Selah.)
8 Salvation belongs to Yahweh. May your blessing be on your people. Selah.

  1. Comentario Augustine of Hippo, Expositions on the Psalms (Psalm III)

The words, "I slept, and took rest; and rose, for the Lord will take me up," lead us to believe that this Psalm is to be understood as in the Person of Christ; for they sound more applicable to the Passion and Resurrection of our Lord, than to that history in which David's flight is described from the face of …

The one lifts up its head in its own glory; the other says to its God, "Thou art my glory, and the lifter up of mine head." In the one, the princes and the nations it subdues are ruled by the love of ruling; in the other, the princes and the subjects serve one another in love, the latter obeying, …

  5. Cita 3:5 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XVII, Chapters 17–18)

For what else is it that is sung in His person in the 3d Psalm, "I laid me down and took a sleep, [and] I awaked, for the Lord shall sustain me?" Is there perchance any one so stupid as to believe that the prophet chose to point it out to us as something great that He had slept and …
