1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, [set] on shigionoth:
1 ORACIÓN de Habacuc profeta, sobre Sigionoth.
1 A prayer of Habakkuk, the prophet, set to victorious music.
2 O YHWH, I heard your report, || I have been afraid, O YHWH, || Your work! In midst of years revive it, || In the midst of years You make known, || In anger You remember mercy.
2 Yahweh, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds, Yahweh. Renew your work in the middle of the years. In the middle of the years make it known. In wrath, you remember mercy.
3 God comes from Teman, || The Holy One from Mount Paran. Pause! His splendor has covered the heavens, || And His praise has filled the earth.
3 God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and his praise filled the earth.
4 And the brightness is as the light, || He has rays out of His hand, || And there—the hiding of His strength.
4 His splendor is like the sunrise. Rays shine from his hand, where his power is hidden.
5 Before Him goes pestilence, || And a burning flame goes forth at His feet.
5 Plague went before him, and pestilence followed his feet.
6 He has stood, and He measures earth, || He has seen, and He shakes off nations, || And mountains of antiquity scatter themselves, || The hills of old have bowed, || The ways of old [are] His.
6 He stood, and shook the earth. He looked, and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains were crumbled. The age-old hills collapsed. His ways are eternal.
7 Under sorrow I have seen tents of Cushan, || Curtains of the land of Midian tremble.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction. The dwellings of the land of Midian trembled.
8 Has YHWH been angry against rivers? Against rivers [is] Your anger? [Is] Your wrath against the sea? For You ride on Your horses—Your chariots of salvation.
8 Was Yahweh displeased with the rivers? Was your anger against the rivers, or your wrath against the sea, that you rode on your horses, on your chariots of salvation?
9 You make Your bow utterly naked, || The tribes have sworn, saying, “Pause!” You cleave the earth [with] rivers.
(Selah.) Hendiste la tierra con ríos.
9 You uncovered your bow. You called for your sworn arrows. Selah. You split the earth with rivers.
10 Seen You—pained are mountains, || An inundation of waters has passed over, || The deep has given forth its voice, || It has lifted up its hands high.
10 The mountains saw you, and were afraid. The storm of waters passed by. The deep roared and lifted up its hands on high.
11 Sun—moon—has stood—a habitation, || Your arrows go on at the light, || At the brightness, the glittering of Your spear.
11 The sun and moon stood still in the sky at the light of your arrows as they went, at the shining of your glittering spear.
12 In indignation You tread earth, || In anger You thresh nations.
12 You marched through the land in wrath. You threshed the nations in anger.
13 You have gone forth for the salvation of Your people, || For salvation with Your Anointed, || You have struck the head of the house of the wicked, || Laying bare the foundation to the neck. Pause!
(Selah.)
13 You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the land of wickedness. You stripped them head to foot. Selah.
14 You have pierced the head of his leaders with his own rods, || They are tempestuous to scatter me, || Their exultation [is] as to consume the poor in secret.
14 You pierced the heads of his warriors with their own spears. They came as a whirlwind to scatter me, gloating as if to devour the wretched in secret.
15 You have proceeded through the sea with Your horses—the clay of many waters.
15 You trampled the sea with your horses, churning mighty waters.
16 I have heard, and my belly trembles, || At the noise have my lips quivered, || Rottenness comes into my bones, || And in my place I tremble, || That I rest for a day of distress, || At the coming up of the people, he overcomes it.
16 I heard, and my body trembled. My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us.
17 Though the fig tree does not flourish, || And there is no produce among vines, || The work of the olive has failed, || And fields have not yielded food, || The flock has been cut off from the fold, || And there is no herd in the stalls,
17 Aunque la higuera no florecerá, ni en las vides habrá frutos; mentirá la obra de la oliva, y los labrados no darán mantenimiento, [y] las ovejas serán quitadas de la majada, y no habrá vacas en los corrales;
17 For even though the fig tree doesn’t flourish, nor fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food, the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls,
18 Yet I, in YHWH I exult, || I am joyful in the God of my salvation.
18 yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 YHWH the Lord [is] my strength, || And He makes my feet like does, || And causes me to tread on my high-places. To the overseer with my stringed instruments!
19 Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength. He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and enables me to go in high places. For the music director, on my stringed instruments.

… had been foreknown by the Father; as also says the prophet Habakkuk, "By this Thou shalt be known when the years have drawn nigh; Thou shalt be set forth when the time comes; because my soul is disturbed by anger, Thou shalt remember Thy mercy." Paul also says: "But when the fulness of time came, God sent forth His Son." …

  2. Cita 3:2 Augustine of Hippo, The City of God (Book XVIII, Chapters 30–32)

In his prayer, with a song, to whom but the Lord Christ does he say, "O Lord, I have heard Thy hearing, and was afraid: O Lord, I have considered Thy works, and was greatly afraid?" What is this but the inexpressible admiration of the foreknown, new, and sudden salvation of men?

  4. Cita 3:3 Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lectures (Lecture XII)

And he makes answer most plainly and says, God shall come from Teman (now Teman is by interpretation south') and the Holy One from Mount Paran, shady, woody: what the Psalmist spake in like words, We found it in the plains of the wood.
