2 they made, therefore, a dinner to Him there, and Martha was ministering, and Lazarus was one of those reclining together with Him; 2 So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.
3 Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment. 3 Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.
4 Therefore one of His disciples—Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver Him up—says, 4 Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,
5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?” 5 “Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”
5 διατί τοῦτο τὸ μύρον οὐκ ἐπράθη τριακοσίων δηναρίων καὶ ἐδόθη πτωχοῖς;
6 And he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying. 6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
7 Jesus, therefore, said, “Permit her; she has kept it for the day of My embalming, 7 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
8 for you always have the poor with yourselves, and you do not always have Me.” 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”
9 Therefore, a great multitude of the Jews knew that He is there, and they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they may also see Lazarus, whom He raised out of the dead; 9 A large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 and the chief priests took counsel, that they may also kill Lazarus, 10 But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,
11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus. 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
12 On the next day, a great multitude that came to the celebration, having heard that Jesus comes to Jerusalem, 12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 took the branches of the palms, and went forth to meet Him, and were crying, “Hosanna! Blessed [is] He who is coming in the Name of the LORD—the King of Israel”; 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”
14 and Jesus having found a young donkey sat on it, according as it is written, 14 Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
15 “Do not fear, daughter of Zion, behold, your King comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey.” 15 “Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16 And His disciples did not know these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about Him, and these things they did to Him. 16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
17 The multitude, therefore, who are with Him, were testifying that He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him out of the dead; 17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it.
18 because of this the multitude also met Him, because they heard of His having done this sign, 18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you do not gain anything, behold, the world went after Him.” 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”
20 And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the celebration, 20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
21 these then came near to Philip, who [is] from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were asking him, saying, “Lord, we wish to see Jesus”; 21 Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”
22 Philip comes and tells Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. 22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.
23 And Jesus responded to them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man may be glorified; 23 Jesus answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 truly, truly, I say to you, if the grain of the wheat, having fallen to the earth, may not die, itself remains alone; and if it may die, it bears much fruit; 24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 he who is cherishing his life will lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world will keep it to continuous life; 25 He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
26 if anyone may minister to Me, let him follow Me, and where I am, there My servant will be also; and if anyone may minister to Me—the Father will honor him. 26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 Now My soul has been troubled; and what will I say—Father, save Me from this hour? But because of this I came to this hour; 27 “Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? But I came to this time for this cause.
28 Father, glorify Your Name.” Therefore there came a voice out of Heaven, “I both glorified, and again I will glorify [it]”; 28 Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29 the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there has been thunder; others said, “A messenger has spoken to Him.” 29 Therefore the multitude who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come because of Me, but because of you; 30 Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 now is a judgment of this world, now will the ruler of this world be cast forth; 31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
32 and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
33 And this He said signifying by what death He was about to die; 33 But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
34 the multitude answered Him, “We heard that the Christ remains out of the Law—throughout the age; and how do You say that it is required that the Son of Man be lifted up? Who is this—the Son of Man?” 34 The multitude answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
34 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ὄχλος· ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν ἐκ τοῦ νόμου ὅτι ὁ Χριστὸς μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, καὶ πῶς σὺ λέγεις, δεῖ ὑψωθῆναι τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου; τίς ἐστιν οὗτος ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
35 Therefore Jesus said to them, “Yet a short time is the light with you; walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness has not known where he goes; 35 Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.
36 while you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” Jesus spoke these things, and having gone away, He was hid from them, 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37 yet He, having done so many signs before them, they were not believing in Him, 37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, “LORD, who gave credence to our report? And the arm of the LORD—to whom was it revealed?” 38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
38 ἵνα ὁ λόγος Ἡσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου πληρωθῇ ὃν εἶπε· Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσε τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν; καὶ ὁ βραχίων Κυρίου τίνι ἀπεκαλύφθη;
39 Because of this they were not able to believe, that again Isaiah said, 39 For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again:
40 “He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with the eyes, and understand with the heart, and turn, and I might heal them”; 40 “He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”
41 Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory, and spoke of Him. 41 Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
42 Still, however, out of the rulers many also believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue, 42 Nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’t confess it, so that they wouldn’t be put out of the synagogue,
43 for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. 43 for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.
44 And Jesus cried and said, “He who is believing in Me, does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me; 44 Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
45 and He who is beholding Me, beholds Him who sent Me; 45 He who sees me sees him who sent me.
46 I—light to the world—have come, that everyone who is believing in Me may not remain in the darkness; 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
47 and if anyone may hear My sayings, and not believe, I do not judge him, for I did not come that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world. 47 If anyone listens to my sayings and doesn’t believe, I don’t judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He who is rejecting Me, and not receiving My sayings, has one who is judging him, the word that I spoke, that will judge him in the last day, 48 He who rejects me, and doesn’t receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him in the last day.
49 because I did not speak from Myself, but the Father who sent Me, He gave Me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak, 49 For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.
50 and I have known that His command is continuous life; what, therefore, I speak, according as the Father has said to Me, so I speak.” 50 I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak.”
