Psalm 39 in LXX = Psalm 40 in RV1909.

LXX Brenton's Greek Septuagint
RV1909 Reina-Valera 1909
40:1 Al Músico principal: Salmo de David. RESIGNADAMENTE esperé á Jehová, é inclinóse á mí, y oyó mi clamor.
40:6 Sacrificio y presente no te agrada; has abierto mis oídos; holocausto y expiación no has demandado.
40:9 Anunciado he justicia en grande congregación: he aquí no detuve mis labios, Jehová, tú [lo] sabes.
40:11 Tú, Jehová, no apartes de mí tus misericordias: tu misericordia y tu verdad me guarden siempre.
40:13 Quieras, oh Jehová, librarme; Jehová, apresúrate á socorrerme.
40:17 Aunque afligido yo y necesitado, Jehová pensará de mí: mi ayuda y mi libertador eres tú; Dios mío, no te tardes.

Why does my Bible say something different?

What the Fathers said

Passages from the Church Fathers that expound or quote this chapter, verbatim from the public-domain Schaff edition (19th-century English translations). Verse numbers below follow the Hebrew/English numbering: 40.

How these were chosen

“Commentary” is the opening of a homily or exposition on this chapter (John Chrysostom’s homilies, Augustine’s tractates, sermons and expositions of the Psalms). “Quotes” are sentences where the edition’s own footnotes identify a quotation of a verse here, kept only when the wording matches the verse. Only works whose authorship is not in doubt are used. Psalms follow the Hebrew/English numbering (Augustine numbers them as the Septuagint does: his Psalm 50 is Psalm 51 here).

Behold, a ready obedience is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams." David also says: "Sacrifice and oblation Thou didst not desire, but mine ears hast Thou perfected; burnt-offerings also for sin Thou hast not required." He thus teaches them that God desires obedience, which renders them secure, rather than sacrifices and holocausts, which avail them …
